Transportation is a common challenge for older adults and their families. From getting to medical appointments and running important errands, to visiting friends and attending community events, seniors need access to reliable, affordable transportation in order to maintain their health, vitality and independence.
That’s why JCA helps seniors find transportation solutions through our Connect-A-Ride resource center. We also help older adults get around through the VillageRides program and with our fleet of handicap-accessible buses.

VillageRides™ Volunteer Drivers:
A Gift to Seniors
More than 49 million adults, 15% of adults living in the United States, are aged 65 or older, up from 13% just six years ago. Here in Maryland, the percentage of seniors is increasing even faster!
When seniors no longer drive, it limits where they can shop. As more people choose to age in place, even daily activities like grocery shopping and visits to the doctor can be a challenge.
VillageRides is a free program offered by Jewish Council for the Aging of Greater Washington that coordinates neighborhood volunteer transportation for seniors and adults with disabilities who do not drive and live within the participating villages and community organizations in Montgomery County and Prince George’s County.
Neighbors Help Seniors with the Gift of a Lift!
We are always seeking new volunteers who enjoy giving the “Gift of a Lift” so that neighboring seniors can get to their doctors’ appointments, shopping, worship services or social outings. If you like to volunteer and have a car, a clean driving record and any time during the week or on weekends, you too can give the “Gift of a Lift.” As a volunteer driver, you just say YES whenever you can — and you’ll feel great knowing you’ve made a difference in a senior’s life by paying it forward. Call VillageRides at 301-255-4212 for more information.
If you need a volunteer ride service for yourself or are a caregiver, family member or a neighbor of a senior citizen who needs transportation services and lives in one of our partnering community organizations, you can connect directly to them by clicking on their logos below or by calling VillageRides at 301-255-4212.
If you are looking for transportation options for a senior who does not live in the areas currently served by VillageRides, please call Connect-A-Ride at 301-738-3252.
“Neighbors Helping Neighbors” College Park is a new Village launching in late 2017.
VillageRides is a program of the Jewish Council for the Aging funded by the Transportation Planning Board of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments.
