JCA senior writer earns several editorial awards

Suzanne Pollak, JCA’s Senior Writer/Editor, who also is a reporter at the Montgomery Sentinel, earned several awards this month at the Maryland, Delaware, District of Columbia’s Press Association Editorial Contest. She took first place in sports reporting for her article, “Concussion fears reduce number of students turning out to play football.”

She earned second place in religion for her article, “Gathering for bagels and not bombs.”

Pollak was also on the Sentinel’s team that took a hard look into the workings of the Metro. The five-part investigative series, “Broken promises – bad dreams,” received numerous honors, including Best in Show and first place in investigative reporting. MDDC judges were “blown away’ by the Montgomery County Sentinel’s ‘massive effort by a small staff’ to highlight the ongoing problems faced by the Metro. For her part of the series, Pollak looked into Metro financing in her article,  “Metro faces severe budget trouble.”

During the ceremony, City Editor Mark Robinson and Pollak were photographed.
